JOB SUMMARY
The Network Engineering Manager is responsible for leading the network engineering team in the design, implementation, operation, and continuous improvement of enterprise network infrastructure. This role ensures high availability, performance, and security of network services aligned with ITSM best practices.
The position combines technical leadership with people management, acting as a key stakeholder in strategic planning, service delivery, and operational excellence within a managed services environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leads and manages the network engineering team, including hiring, mentoring, performance management, and career development.
- Oversees the design and architecture of network infrastructure, ensuring scalability, security, and alignment with business requirements.
- Defines and enforces network standards, policies, and best practices.
- Manages network-related incidents, problems, and changes following ITSM frameworks (Incident, Problem, Change Management).
- Acts as escalation point for complex network and unified communications issues.
- Coordinates with cross-functional teams (Security, Systems, Cloud, Service Desk) to ensure service continuity and performance.
- Monitors network performance trends and proactively identifies risks and improvement opportunities.
- Ensures proper documentation of network architecture, configurations, and operational procedures.
- Oversees implementation of LAN, WAN, WLAN, SD-WAN, and security solutions.
- Manages vendor relationships and evaluates new technologies, tools, and solutions.
- Ensures compliance with SLAs, KPIs, and customer expectations.
- Leads capacity planning, disaster recovery, and business continuity initiatives for network services.
- Supports pre-sales and solution design activities when required
Required Skills/Abilities/Competencies:
- Strong leadership and team management skills in a technical environment.
- Advanced knowledge of enterprise networking technologies (LAN, WAN, WLAN, SD-WAN).
- Deep expertise in routing and switching protocols: BGP, OSPF, EIGRP, MPLS, VLANs, STP.
- Strong experience with Cisco technologies (Catalyst, Nexus, SD-WAN, ISE).
- Experience with network security solutions (Firewalls such as Cisco ASA/Firepower, Palo Alto).
- Understanding of cloud networking (AWS, Azure) and hybrid environments.
- Knowledge of ITSM frameworks (Incident, Problem, Change Management).
- Familiarity with monitoring and troubleshooting tools (Wireshark, SolarWinds, NetFlow, SNMP).
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication skills with ability to interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced MSP environment.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field preferred.
- ITSM certification (ITIL Foundation or higher) required.
- 7+ years of experience in network engineering.
- 3+ years in a leadership or management role.
- CCNP Enterprise required; CCIE preferred.
- Experience in Managed Services (MSP/ITSM environment) strongly preferred.
